Saw the installations of German artist Heike Weber via Apartment Therapy. I love it when a space is transformed by activating the surface. And the repetition of these lines are just wonderful. I can’t imagine the time to fill this space with the hand, so impressive and beautiful! See more of her work here.

Ballet, “Homecoming”

I heard this story yesterday during “All Things Considered“ on NPR. Former Marine, Sgt Roman Baca choreographed the ballet, “Homecoming” when he returned from the war in Iraq. Read about his story here. In the opening scene I watched the dancers perform while letters are read from loved ones to their soldiers serving in the war. You can watch excerpts from the ballet here. It is definitely worth your time. I so admire how the human body can move and express. Thanks to Sgt. Baca for telling this story in such a beautiful way.

so I am preparing for my first solo show in like 8 years…inbetween feeding a 5 month old and changing diapers I am trying to make artwork…We will see what is going to come of the show I am still working on stuff and will till the last possible day:)…Came across this painter Jeff Lewis. I like that his work is about paint

Keep it Simple!! I repeat over and over again after Dylan goes to bed and I am left to paint…

Saw the work of artist Chloe Early via Its Nice That. I am a new fan! She is based in London. Love the realism and abstraction with a nod at kitsch. Oh and of course the paint itself, beautiful use of paint! Jen, I thought you would especially love this work. Check out her blog here.

I ran across the gallery images of 941 Geary in San Francisco on My Love for You. I became obsessed with the images I saw of this huge pink chandelier suspended in the space. I searched through the list of every artist in the group show until I found Scott Hove. Stop me dead in my tracks, I am in love with his “Cakeland” series. He’s not the first artist I’ve seen use cakes to play on the decorative. But he has done it better than anyone I’ve come across. I’m not sure that I’m adequately expressing how impressed I am with this work. I mean a ridiculously large candy pink chandelier that makes you want to eat it until you see the animal that’s about to eat your face off…yes, please…I want to see more.

We’re Back

I have a confession, it has been 4 months since my last post. I’ve been incredibly distracted by the cutest baby in the world and my brained turned to swiss cheese. All my great plans of making art and keeping up with design while I was away from work on maternity leave just didn’t happen…at all. Now Jen on the other hand, had a show right after her baby was born. That’s because she is amazing!

I’m ready to make my return from the blur of diaper mountains and middle of the night feedings. And really who can blame us for a bit of a blog break when we’ve got these faces in our lives…little DMC, and baby E.

Nancy Neil and Warpaint

I keep going back and looking at the Sneak Peek of photographer Nancy Neil on Design Sponge yesterday. Her home is beautiful. It looks so thoughtful yet not “designed.” It looks like the kind of home you would live in forever and never leave.

I’ve equally enjoyed looking through Nancy’s blog and all of her photographs. Her images of pregnancy, family, and lovers are so intimate and sincere. I was also excited to see her images of the band “Warpaint.”
