Alexander Girard

I’ve found it! The perfect fabric and inspiration for the nursery. We found out last week that we’re having a boy. I was out shopping for work on Tuesday and stopped in at Urban Outfitters, and there it was! An Alexander Girard duvet in his Eden print. It was love at first sight!

I love the modern aesthetic and folk elements in the design. Also the coloring is EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for. I’m planning to take the fabric and turn it into curtains and pillows with the aid of my sewing friends.
Alexander Girard led the textile division for Herman Miller from 1952-1975. He worked with leading designers like Charles and Ray Eames. Many of his textiles and designs are now being reintroduced into the marketplace. You can find more his products at maXimo, the official agent of his estate. I also loved this video for products sold by House Industries. Since I’m particularly admiring Girard’s Eden print, I love how FLOR has applied the pattern to their carpet tiles.

Alexander and Susan Girard donated their huge collection of Folk Art in 1978. It is on view in the Girard Wing of the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe, NM.
