Natalie Macellaio

By Sarah | October 7, 2009

A few years ago my parents gave me a Tanzanite gemstone and told me they would pay for me to have it set however I wanted.  I LOVE Tanzanite and this one was particular large and beautiful!  I kept it in a drawer not knowing what to do with it, but wanting something really special.  I found the answer in my friend and local artist Natalie Macellaio.  I met Natalie in grad school but got to know her better when we worked together at 500X Gallery.   She is trained as a metal smith but is an artist who works in a variety of mediums creating the most awesome sculptures and installations.

I knew that Natalie would be able to create a setting that would be unique and perfect for the stone.  Natalie designed a ring setting for me and I haven’t taken it off since I picked it up 2 days ago.  I love how organic the ring is, but still feels very sculpted.  Turns out that jewelery is super hard to photograph!  Check out my ring in all its poorly photographed glory…

Its obviously so much better in person.  Definitely take the time to see more of Natalie’s jewelery and artwork on her website.

    Very beautiful ring!
Did you use the macro setting on your camera? Natural light will help too. :)
