Art and Football
By Sarah | August 12, 2009
Honestly, I haven’t cared too much about the hype surrounding the new Cowboys Stadium. R has already been on a tour and told me all about how every part of the stadium was quoted as being ”the largest in the world” by the tour guide. But I had no idea about the incredible art collection that is becoming a part of the stadium. Amazing! I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I can not wait to tour the stadium after September 20th when all of the artworks are set to be completed. Has there ever been a major contemporary art collection in a sports stadium?
My favorites among the artists doing site specific installations are Trenton Doyle Hancock, Olafur Elliason, Matthew Ritchie and one of my professors from UNT, Annette Lawrence. There are 14 commissioned works total. Way to go Jerry Jones! I’m proud to see art of this caliber being promoted in Dallas in such a public way. Especially cool to see art like this out of the museum and in a place where millions of people will be exposed to it.
